Earning your Medical Assistant Certificate through our Distance Education Program:

Our comprehensive Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare the graduate for a rewarding position in a physician's office, dental office, chiropratic office, hospital, medical center, clinic, nursing home or a home healthcare setting.

The length of time to complete your studies depends on you. The big advantage of distance education is the absence of attendance requirements, with no attendance requirements, you can easily continue to work while you pursue your studies. Remember, only you can set the pace. Our professors will recommend text readings and other distance education sources to assist you in earning your Medical Assistant certificate. The faster you work the quicker you will earn your Medical Assistant certificate.

Shortly after registering for our Medical Assistant distance education program the student is sent a confidential "user name" and "password". This will allow you full access to all  materials necessary to complete our Medical Assistant program.

Medical Assistant Program :

Section I: General Medical Assistant
In this course section the Medical Assistant student will study basic Medical Assistant knowlege in areas that include: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Basic Legal Issues in Medicine and Professional Skills.                  

Section II: Administrative Medical Assistant Skills

The Administrative Section of our program deals with office management aspects often required of Medical Assistants. These areas include: Introduction to office equipment and office management skills, patient communication skills, health insurance and management of medical records.

Section III: Medical Assistant Clinical Skills
Our Clinical Section is often the most exciting and rewarding area of study for our students. Here the Medical Assistant Student will study: basic clinical procedures, infection control procedures, basic medical laboratory procedures, office emergency care and admistration of medications.     

Required Text Book:

"Prentice Hall Health Outline Health Review for the Medical Assistant" (2nd edition), by Marsha Perkins Hemby. This text also comes with a very informative CD-ROM and a student instrutional website to help with your studies. This text book is available for our students in our online bookstore.

Testing and Examination:

After the student has completed their studies in all three Medical Assistant sections of our program they may take our online exam to assess their knowledge in these three basic areas of our Medical Assistant program. If a student does not demonstrate sufficient knowledge in any of these areas they will be allowed to retake that section of the examination at no additional charge. 

Grading:

Our grading system is similar to that of most distance education programs, after a student successfully completes all three sections of our exam they will recieve full credit passing grades in the areas of study and will be issued a certificate of completion from St. Augustine School of Medical Assistants. Certificates and transcripts are sent via first class mail.

Our Medical Assistant certificate program is open to all students who have earned a high school diploma or the equivalent. High School students who plan to graduate with in the next year may also enroll in our program. All students registering for  our distance education program must have basic computer skills and access to the internet. In addition students enrolling in our Medical Assistant certificate program must have an ethical commitment to caring for the sick and conduct themselves in a professional manner. All Tuition fees must be paid at the time of registration.
